I have been using the crusting BC recipe from this website and I love the taste of it. But this weekend I tried my husband's aunt's recipe and it is really good too!! She thought she could remember it off hand and said that she used butter flavoring instead of a stick of butter. Hers has a butter flavor where mine is more of an almond flavor. Does anyone know of this recipe? She also said she adds salt. ...... I would call and ask her but sometimes she is hard to talk to.

The BC I typically use has no butter and does use salt.

2 cups shortening
1 tsp clear vanilla extract
1 tsp butter extract
1/2 cup water
1 tsp salt
2# powdered sugar.

You could certainly go half and half with butter and shortening. You could also use milk instead of water. Just dissolve the salt in the liquid. I have many compliments when using this and when it's all shortening, you get a pure white icing. HTH

thanks so much! That sounds like the recipe. I just couldn't remember the amounts.

No problem! I usually use regular salt, can't seem to find an unflavored popcorn salt around here. Just remember to dissolve it. And the amount of liquid can be increased or decreased depending on how stiff you want it or even if you live in a humid area.
