After being all happy that I completed this cake before midnight for my niece, I took pictures last night and posted it in my pictures. Well, my husband woke me up (because I was up to 2 am looking at my cake porn!!) and had this worried look on his face. He said that I might have to fix the cake. I just thought maybe one of my daughters stuck her finger in it or something because I heard them oohing and aweing over it (they are only 3 and 2) so I just turned around and went back to sleep. A couple minutes later, he came back up and still looked concerned and said that I should really get down there and fix the cake because it looks pretty bad.

I had to scrap off half my bottom layer cake and redo. I'm thankful it is only for my niece and not for a client picking it up! I was originally suppose to bring it over this morning so everyone could look at it (a couple of her neighbors that are not going to be at the party wanted to see my work) but I think I'll keep it here as long as possible because it looks like another portion might buldge and possibly fall off. Obviously this was the first time I used strawberry filling. I thought I put a really good dam on it but next time I'll do much better.

I'm pleasantly surprised on how I'm not freaking out about it.

PS: I hope I attach the pictures correctly. This will be my first time. If I can't I'll put them in my pictures.

I'm so sorry you had this disaster. I looked at the photo and it looks like maybe you put a little too much filling and with all the weight of the other 2 layers it oozed out. I haven't done many stacked cakes so maybe someone with more knowledge can offer some helpful information for future cakes.

Your cake turned out beautiful. I know they are going to love it. Just put that side to the back and no one will notice.

Wow! it's a beautiful cake! It looks like you could scrape out a little of the filling where it oozed and spackle it back together pretty nicely.

Thank you all for your sympathy! I had to take off all the decorations on half of the bottom layer and redue the whole thing. It only took me a little over 30 mins to repair the cake. Actually I was pretty impressed with myself that only my husband and I could tell where the damage was. I did not take a picture of the "after/completed" though. The original "before" cake is in my pictures that I posted last night. I brought it to the party and no one knew any better. My niece loved it and that is all that mattered. Thank you again for hearing my story! It always feels good to share.

Congratulations on the fixup-everything turned out great and your niece loved it-that's the main thing! Sometimes we just have to learn things for ourselves and this was at least an "easy" lesson-it truly could have been worse but being the pro that you are you were able to hit the floor running and make it work-great job!!!!

OMG it looks so yummy but at the same time soooo gross. It looks like your cake was stabbed and is bleeding and oozing! I was just like ewwww. but I am trying to look past the ooze to the yummy strawberry FILLING and buttercream. That's better. Think of the filling not the ooze!

ok so how did you fix it.... I had a dam break but that was a creamy filling and i could freeze and solve the problem.

Tonight i will be using bavarian cream filling so i don't know how that will work.....
