Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower

Thread Starter
I've been asked to make a cake for a baby shower for about 25 people.
the theme is Alice in Wonderland, they were thinking of a Mad Hatter cake. The ones I have seen are pretty large, anyone have some suggestions on this cake or a different type of cake. They were also thinking about $2 to $3 a slice...is that about right?

My Alice in Wonderland cake is three tiered, but the largest tier was an 8" round. Whismy's can be smaller scaled, I would just recommend tapering in the sides and not angling the top, it is just a lot easier and more stable and still looks good I think. Good luck!

Nevermind. I misunderstood your question. Ignore the response. icon_redface.gif

I did a M.H. cake for a first birthday and charged $75.00. It was a 3-layer (either 8" or 10") and the brim was made out of a 12" round with the middle cut out. Only the accents were fondant; all the rest was buttercream. And the best part was that I didn't have to level anything 'cause that cake is supposed to be off-kilter!

It's listed under Birthdays on my website: www.cakes.dqd.com

what if you did just the mad hatter hat? Maybe with a gumpaste/fondant cheshire cat on top or something. You could put the band around it with the little ticket thing in it. Or maybe you could do something with teacups? Just ideas.

I also do mine this way instead of angling the tops....is MUCH easier and the same (topsy) look is achieved! I really like the idea of using tea cups somehow....maybe you could make them transfers out of chocolate or royal icing and put them on wire? Or, even make them from fondant and put them on wires sticking out of the cake at all "kookie" angles! Antonia74 has a WONDERFUL Alice in Wonderland madhatter cake, complete with a cheshire cat on top! You could PM her to ask permission to incorporate some of her colors/ideas! It's phenominal! And you could add your own twist!

HI
I have made a 3D cheshire cat for a birthday party. I will post it to my pictures and you can also see it at www.cakeface.com.au under kiddies cakes. It served 25, im not sure about portion price because we dont charge by the serve here.

if it's only for 25 people and you think a tiered cake is too much, maybe you could just do a teapot with teacups all around it. I did one like that and painted it with luster dust to make it look whimisical. it was really cute. i used the mini wondermold for teacups and just cut a bit off the top rounded part and flipped it over and it really looked like a teacup with gumpaste curls on toothpicks for handles!

I think also that the whimsy and happy tea cups and teapot would be so cute!
