Hi, I've been searching for Non-Toxic Pastel chalk without success. I have the Wilton's "beautiful gum paste flowers" and in page 3 says the chalk is needed.
Does anyone know where can I find it or if there are any substitute . . .?
From Wilton magazine:
NON-TOXIC PASTEL CHALK. Stroke the color you need on small piece of paper, then pick it up with your brush or grate through a tea strainer.
Thanks for your help
I have some from Michael's or AC Moore. Got 24 colors for $3. There is a whole section of pastle chalks there. Ask the salesgirl where the section is. I think it was by the paints. I take a knife and scrape off some chalk and use it as petal dusts if no one is eating the gumpaste flowers. I used it in my pink tulip in my pics. So much cheaper than petal dust!
I think the crayola chalk you get in the kids' section is non-toxic. At least the stuff I looked at Saturday said that. Most of the chalk made for kids is non-toxic because you never know when one (like my toddler) will decide to taste test it. I've read in several forums on here to use the non-toxic chalk instead of buying petal dusts. Much less expensive and you generally aren't using enough to make a taste/texture problem. HTH
Most chalks are non-toxic now. I've seen them at all stores, Wal-Mart, Target, Michael's, etc.
Here's a link from Michael's.

if you are going for this to save money over the petal dust, may as well go to walmart. look in the summer aisle, there are big buckets of store brand chalk for a dollar. i have always assumed that kids chalk is non toxic- just look on the label. it should say non toxic on the front.
Woao!!! Thank crumbscakeartistry, kbrown99, ChrisJ, melysa very much for such quick and complete responses. You made me feel welcome to this forum !!!
