I have luster dust in the gold and silver metallic and it works wonderful when I mix it with a small amount of vanilla extract and paint it on my cookies. I loved the effect and so I ordered the pearl color and also a pink color. I tried the pink this weekend on my pink iced tulip cookies and I again mixed it with a very small bit of vanilla extract but it did not work. The result was a thin pink paint but the sparkley luster part was gone. I didn't use it. What did I do wrong? Am I supposed to paint the pink luster dust on with a dry paintbrush?
The lustre dusts are best applied dry. the add a warm glow to the item. you can use them with alcohol to paint-perhaps you needed more powder to you liquid ratio?
Maybe it's the vanilla. If you could use some *serious* alcohol, like vodka or Everclear, that might help. If that's a problem, lemon extract will work. The alcohol content is much higher so it evaporates quicker.
Also you can use "everclear", if you are in a state that sells it. I have just use gin on mine and after it dries you can see the shine
