My hairdresser, who's husband is a doctor, ordered a cake from me... she's one of those really hard to please kind of people... She wants a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache on it .. chocolate dipped strawberries and cherries on top ... the cake is for her nephew who will be 12 years old and she said he loves chocolate covered strawberries ... It's suppose to serve 15 people, maybe a few more she said so I was going to do a 9", three layer chocolate cake with a thin layer of chocolate icing, then pour the ganache over this .. I thought about putting the pirouette cookies around it and tying a blue ribbon or something around it ... I'm not sure if that'd be a good idea or not though .. she left the cake design up to me ... any great, really moist, fantastic tasting chocolate cake recipes someone would want to share that they've tried and know are to be really good ones or suggest to use would be great!! any and all suggestions are welcome!!! I'm biting nails over this one for sure ... If I really please this woman, it could open doors to some very inflentional people in my area....
I just saw the barefoot contessa over the weekend (I think) make a chocolate cake that sounds really good. Maybe a search of the food network site would turn it up, she added coffee to it which I know made it super good. Or what about the toba garrett recipe I have heard so much about, the one where you just put every ingredient into one bowl and mix?
Crissy
I'll have to see if I can find the Toba Garrett one and I'll also check the Food Network .. I need to make one up to see how it tastes ... I want this cake to just make you go "WOW" when you taste it lol .. Thanks for your help!
Use the White Almond Sour Cream Cake in the recipe section of CC ..but instead of white cake use..DEvils Food...and use 6 whole eggs instead of Egg whites..Other that that follow the recipe
This cake is as fabulous as the white
I made this one and it was delicious. I even ordered her book because of it. I didn't make the icing and ganache...just the cake part filled w/ choc buttercream and covered wtih fondant. It was VERY moist. I was really worried it was going to be too gooey to cut well, but I it ended up being perfect (I did freeze the layers for a few days before icing and decorating). My chocoholic friend said it was the best chocolate cake she'd ever had.

I think it looks great.........and delicious!!!
I've been wanting to make one of these. Someone did tell me not to make the strawberries too far in advance because they start to juice up and drip. I hope it does okay. It really is beautiful.
Well I hope the strawberries don't leak ... I have it in the fridge ... I will be delivering it in less than 3 hours now ... hopefully it'll be ok until then! I hope she likes it! I'm still not sure what I'm charging her for it.
Awesome job!
What recipes did you decide to use for the cake, filling and ganache?
It looks simply scrumptious and is so pretty too! Certainly no need for you to feel nervous over this one!
Well I just delivered the cake .. she must to have liked the way it looked because she gave me a $10 tip Now I hope she likes the way it tastes too ... I told her I needed to know because that's the only way I can improve or change the cake recipes is by feedback ..I told her to call me and tell me anything she liked or disliked about the cake ...
I used the Hershey's dark chocolate cake recipe ... I made a chocolate icing with butter but instead of milk, I used whipping cream in it ... The ganache poured over the top was butter, whipping cream and semi sweet chocolate .. it will be a very rich, moist cake for sure
