Which ones to do??

Ok cookie girls!! I've got a bit of a dilemma and could use your opinions. I'm making about 4 dozen cookies for a luau at my DS's school this Friday night, just as gifts for the kids and to drum up some business. Of course, I want to go with the luau theme....but which shapes to do??? icon_razz.gif There's so many options! I want two cookies per pkg, so this is what I'm thinking....for boys: Palm tree w/ hawaiian shirt...for girls: palm tree with either a flip flop or a flower. What do y'all think? I'm open to any suggestions, but have to get started soon...as I also have to do a cake for their dessert at the luau and a teacher appreciation cake for school the same day! Agghhhh!! icon_eek.gificon_rolleyes.gif Thanks for any ideas/help!! thumbs_up.gif

I think you have enough on your plate Jenn and enough deco smarts to do the right thing and get to it! icon_wink.gif They are great ideas, I bet the little shirts will come out so cute. Go with what you have, I say!

I have made the flip flops to RAVE reviews from teen and tween girls. The shirts sound cute - you could also do fish.

Thanks for all the input!! I agree, flops 'n flowers for the girls...but what about surfboards and shirts for the boys?? LOL Switching gears, I know...but I just realized I loaned out my palm tree cutter the other day and since I want to get these cut & in the freezer by tonight (to bake off on Wed.) I thought a surfboard would be MUCH easier to cut freehand or with a template. Plus, it wouldn't need as much detail deco as the palm, I think.

BTW - anyone ever done brushed embroidery technique on cookies? Flowers or hibiscus cookies, to be exact? I was thinking if I went w/the hibiscus cutter that it might look pretty neat and use far less icing than flooding the whole thing. Just outline, then pull-out the icing w/ the brush, then yellow line & a few dots for the center thingy..stamen?? icon_confused.gif Am I crazy for thinking it would go quickly?? icon_razz.gificon_rolleyes.gif Another thing is they would dry really fast since they wouldn't be flooded...THAT would be cool! Speed up the whole thing then. So, what do y'all think??

well you could cover the background of the cookie w/fondant instead of royal...much quicker and easier. then do a few of the decos on top w/royal or even some small fondant flower cutouts...b/c that would work for all the cookies. you could use the same cookie cutter used for the cookie for the background.

I do alot of pineapples, palm trees and surfboards here in Hawaii!
Also, for something "simple" you could just write "MAHALO" - or "ALOHA".

great ideas! I love the idea of surf board and hawaiian shirt for the boys. I think the flip flops and flowers will be great for the girls, too!

Can't wait to see the pictures!

Well...nothing went as planned this week...the cookie order even got changed...LOL. icon_rolleyes.gif I had some unexpected family 'stuff' that put me off my 'cookie-schedule' by 2 days!! But the cookies being gifts from me to the kids changed to one of the teacher's actually ordering it from the school to the kids!! YAAAYYYY!!! I hadn't told anyone I was going to do it but a few of the teachers know I do this stuff....so the one heading up the luau thing called me. She decided on one cookie per kid (to keep costs down) and wanted flip flops, surfboards and sunshine's....so that's what I did.

There were 60 cookies in all, but I did 10 extra for back-ups. I charged $125...so after my costs, that put me making $27.50/hr!!!!! icon_eek.gif It took me a little over 4 hrs to do it. ummmm....I'm pretty okay with that! icon_razz.gifthumbs_up.gif My DH, of course, figured all that out and informed me of it...I freaked, at first...never had a cookie order that large - in # of cookies OR price! But it comes out to $2.083333333 per cookie.....which some would say is undercharging, as they were 3 inch cookies...but the surfboards weren't that wide, just long. I just wanted to do it for exposure to the parents of the kids my son hasn't been in class with....so I got a two-fer! icon_wink.gif

Anyway...they were a little rushed, and I got a little jittery/shaky at the end of it and I think it shows, but the customer was very happy. The parents were flipping out and giving me lots of nice complements. I was saying to myself...'It's just a cookie! I've done better! Glad you can't see the way I left my kitchen!!' icon_lol.gif

Thanks for looking!!
