I just took a fondant class and loved the ideas but didn't care for the taste. I have been reading around and have found the recipe for the marshmallow fondant and the rolled buttercream. How do these taste in comparison?

MMF is so much better than wilton's premade, by itself it tastes like circus peanuts (the candy) or you can flavor it with whatever. I haven't made the rolled butter cream but I've also heard it's much better, but from what I've seen it has a more shiny appearance. There are some other premade fondants like pettinice (I think that's what its called) but I can't get them here so I haven't tasted them yet. Someone on here will know a lot more than me but hope this helps

I just made my 1st batch of MMF and the taste is great, but i found that it is much harder to work with than regular fondant. Not sure if I made it wrong or what. icon_sad.gif

I love Colette Peter's recipe! I like the taste better than the MMF as well. I don't think it is as sweet tasting.

I made my first batch of MMF last weekend for flip-flops on a beach cake. The taste is SOOOOO much better than Wilton fondant and it was absolutely a cinch to work with. The taste reminds me of the Peeps candy you get at Easter that are shaped like chicks or bunnies. Anyway, cocakedecorator, I found out that if you handle the MMF with latex gloves (sprayed with cooking spray), the MMF is MUCH easier to use and so simple to clean up!

My friend would love to have a fondant cake for her wedding, but hates the taste. Where could I find the MMF that everyone is raving about?

If you go to recipes at the top of the home page and enter "marshmallow fondant" in the search, you'll find a few variations. I use a very simple recipe: 1 2# bag of powdered sugar, 1 16 oz. bag of minimarshmallows, 1/2 t. flavoring and 2 T water. You just pour the marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl along with the water and flavoring adn microwave at 20-30 second intervals just until the marshmallows are melted enough that you can stir them easily. Slowly add your sugar until it becomes a 'dough'. When all the sugar is incorporated, you're done. It's really easy.

Good luck! Post a picture when you've finished the cake. I'd love to see it!
