Hello everyone. I have been looking thru the past posts, hopefully looking for a conversion of Nati's mud cakes. I cannot find one. I tried to convert the White Chocolate mud cake but am not sure on it. That one I don't have to have. But, I would really love for someone to convert the Dark Chocolate Mud cake, PLEASE. I don't want to mess up on conversions and find them difficult on some sites, because they are all different conversions and confusing. Here is the link to Nati's recipe here on CC, please someone help. Thank you so much for your time. And, if anyone out there has the Caramel mud cake recipe converted, please send it. Thanks again.

I looked up metric conversions and figured this conversion on the Yahoo site: http://education.yahoo.com/reference/weights_and_measures/

Please feel free to double check my work.

150gms dark chocolate buttons = 5.2 oz
250 gms butter = 8.8 oz
1 c. milk
440 gms castor sugar = 15.5 oz
2 extra large eggs
4 tbs whiskey
80 gms self raising flour = 2.82 oz
100 gms unsweetened cocoa = 3.52 oz

180 degrees celsius = 356 degrees Farenheit

Hope this helps!

Do you have kitchen scales? Those ingredients in Nati's recipe are listed in grams. How did you want them converted? icon_biggrin.gif

Well, it would be nice to convert them to the easiest way as possible. If possible. LOL. I think cups and tsp and tbsp would be easy. I don't have a kitchen scale. Sorry! I guess the oz will work in my 2 cup measuring cup. Thanks marina34!

Riagirl-I don't think it's your math because I didn't flunk math and it's difficult to see all these conversions. And, I think Nati's recipes are Australian converted. So, it's hard to actually find an Aussie conversion online. Maybe will get it someday. LOL.

What are chocolate buttons?

And what is castor sugar? Never heard of that.

Thanks for ya'lls time.

Caster sugar is very fine granulated sugar - here in the US I've found it sold at grocery stores as baking sugar. I think the chocolate buttons are like the Wilton candy melts, but I'm not positive on that one.

Thanks Peaceofcake! I knew it was fine sugar. The buttons probably are the candy melts. I also found a conversion online at the site below: This is the easiest one I found-So, there you go also Riagirl. LOL.

Uuh, just one little problem folks, I didn't check the rest of your recipe conversion but the tablespoon measurement used in Australia and New Zealand is 1 whole teaspoon bigger than the tablespoon we use in Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain. Our tablespoons are 15 ml and theirs are 20ml. There is 5 ml in a teaspoon, therefore their tablespoon is 1 teaspoon bigger.

You have to do a conversion by weight kiddo, you can't use your cups except for the liquid, the milk. Also check the post I made regarding the tablespoon.
If you can get someone to do the weight conversion and then measure out the weight in dry level measuring cups, it won't be exact but it would be closer. Measuring by cups is by displacement which won't give you the measurement by weight but by displacement.

Hahaha! It's too confusing for me too. I just got the measurements on the link above. I guess they are wrong from Squirrely Cakes post. I don't know! Now I feel really stupid. LOL. I guess we have to either find another mud cake recipe with US measurements or not make the mud cake at all. LOL. Too bad, I wanted to also make the mud cake. icon_sad.gif Thanks to everyone that posted anyway! ~Josie

Hello to all the confused American ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What conversions would you like? It would be easiest for me to tell you grams to ounces and clarify what we here in Australia call 1 cup etc..

Is this what you need? Let me know.

okay, this is what I get.
150 gms chocolate (buttons are just round disks of cooking chocolate) = 5 oz.
250gms butter = 8 oz
1 cup milk (250mls) = 8 fluid oz
440gms =14 oz castor sugar (fine sugar)
2 extra large eggs
4 tbs (80mls)whiskey = 2 3/4 fluid oz
80gms self raising flour = 3 oz
120gms plain flour =4 oz
100gms cocoa =3.2 oz
I hope this helps! This is converting from australian measurements to american ounces and fluid ounces.
Good luck and happy mud cake baking.. YUM... I might go have a slice right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who need conversions go to Beryl's Cake Decorating and click on the site map. When it opens scroll down to How to Resources. There are converstions there. Australian Women's Weekly has them for sure. Or you can just go to your search engine and search for conversions. More than you ever need will come up.
