How can I make black frosting look black?? Everytime I have tried to make it, it turns out grey or dark grey. The only thing I've done is used pipping gel and added the black coloring to it.

It takes a lot of coloring to get black!! And if you let it sit for awhile after you mix it up it will darken up some.

Starting with chocolate frosting is a good place to start.......but if you have to use the white frosting just add a TON of the black........I made a spiderman cake and half of it was black and I added a ton of black, when it gets as deep as it possibly can when it looks like it's a dark purplish grey color......let it sit a few hours and it will darken up for ya.

hi, i had this problem many times. I solved this by putting a bit of coco powder in my buttercream then adding the black coloring. I always let it set a while, but doing it this way i have found u can do it if u need it right away and it works just as well if u made it b4 hand

I make chocolate frosting & color it black. It makes a great shade of black & isn't bitter.

I also use the chocolate icing, but be fooled it will still take quite a bit of color, just not near as much.

I use the Americolor black and start with white frosting. It takes a bit but not nearly as much as the wilton black. I love the Americolors!

Hi!

If you want black icing, you need to use Amerigel colors. They are liquid gels that come in these great bottles that you squeeze out. No color on your hands. YIPEE!!!

I love them ,they give you red, maroon, burgandy, black ETC..

I have to admit, the best product for making colored icing.

Bestest,
Dawn

If there is a lot of black on your cake, (like a bowling ball or something) be sure to tell your customers that they may be seeing a change in color in what's "left behind" in the bathroom! icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gif

I know that is totally gross!!!!!!!!! but it's true! I had to be sure to tell the parents of the kid's birthday party about it so they didn't all run their kids to the emergency room the day after the party! icon_biggrin.gif

I've not "witnessed" it, but I've been told that's what happened. icon_wink.gificon_redface.gif
