I've just started using fondant (MMF mostly), and I want to know if there's a special way to not get the powdered sugar all over the surface of the fondant. It's hard to make anything look that good when it's got sugar caked all over it.

Any advice on what you do to keep the fondant clean?

Hi Julie:

I never use powdered sugar, just crisco on my rolling mat. I have never had a problem with it sticking to the mat either. HTH

I agree. With MMF I use just a small amount of crisco on the surface I am rolling the fondant out on. The powdered sugar hasn't worked very well for me, but the crisco does the trick.

I actually thought about that but I wondered if I could use shortening without it making the fondant greasy.

I'll definitely give it a try, thanks!

Fondant actually has a tendency to want to dry as you roll and stretch it, using the shortening instead of confec sugar or cornstarch actually helps me keep it moist so that I dont get cracks when I lift and work it.

Hello guys.... Can I check with you all... on what kind of surface do you roll your fondant out?... Do you use a special mat? and what kind of rolling pin? Does wood rolling pin works with fondant? Thanks icon_biggrin.gif
