Hi everyone,
I was wondering how many cups of buttercream icing will cover and pipe a full sheet cake? I have to make 5 full sheet cakes all with buttercream icing and I am making the buttercream icing from scratch and wanted to have some type of idea of how much I needed to make. I didn't want to make way to much, nor did I want to make not enough. So if anyone can help I'd greatly appriciate it. Thanks so much.

My notes say 8 cups for full decorating a 4" high (double layer) quarter sheet cake. That sounds like a lot but probably not by the time you decorate it completely. Since you are making 5 and can use left overs from one cake to the next, I would guess 35 cups total. ??

I made a double layer 9x13 cake and needed 8 cups of icing to ice it. Of course, I did remove some when smoothing it out. I then needed additional icing to decorate it with since I didn't want to only use thin, blue icing.

There are charts on wilton.com (under Cake, Cake Preparation) and ladycakes.com (under charts ?). Hope this is helpful.
