Does anyone know how to make a cake or fondant mold in the shape of a dinner plate?

If you have any suggestions or websites I view that would be great!

I was thinking you could do like this...

but just go larger. To cut it out, you could lay down an actual plate and cut around it. You might even be able to mold the fondant inside the plate to get the shape you want.

Another idea might be to look for a mold. I bought a mold from sugarcraft that was a life-sized teacup and saucer. Maybe they carry a mold of a larger plate.

I agree with Lisa, I add some gum-tex powder to my fondant, about 3 tsp. to about 8-10 ounces of fondant. You really need to do this because it will not harden up enough to maintain its shape without the gum-tex or making it out of gumpaste. So you roll it out, I roll out 1/4 inch thick. I use an actual plate and cut around it. Then I either lightly grease the real plate with Crisco, or I cover it with plastic wrap and mold the fondant to the plate, to get the rim etc. Then I let it air dry for 2-3 days while on the plate and remove my fondant plate and let it dry another day on its own. Generally for something like this, a minimum of 2 days drying time is a good idea.
If you would like to PM me, I can send you a picture of a bread and butter plate I did this way.
