This is soooo not happening... I went to make those cake balls using the recipe onsite and OH BOY icon_eek.gif They did NOT come out right!!! I have no idea what I did wrong, but they do NOT look like cake balls icon_cry.gif
I tried to blow up my blender, then the first batch I think I melted as the cake was still kinda warm and melted the choc chips so I had to refridgerate the "dough" to get it out of the blender. 2nd batch I ended up stirring w/a wooden spoon after blending a few minutes. The "dough" came out nicely and was great to roll.. Then I rolled the balls in 10x sugar and they looked great!! I got up the next morning and all of the 10x sugar had absorbed into the balls, they were REALLY wet and sticky!!! icon_sad.gif
So I re-rolled them in the 10x and by the time I got to work they were wet and sticky again..... icon_mad.gif So I don't know what happened.. I'm laughing cause they look like little balls of yuck!!! LOL...
ANy tips on how I did this would be appreciated!!! REmember to laugh cause it is pretty funny!!! I asked co-workers to try them and they are like YA OK RIGHT!!!!!!!!! icon_redface.gif

it seems that the simplier the recipe the more difficult it is for me?????

Have A great Day Everyone

happened to me too...........did you let the ball air dry for a few hours on a cooling rack like the directions say before rolling in powdered sugar???? What I did to rectify mine is to put all the balls in a container with powdered sugar in it until I was ready to serve....the I gave it a shake and popped them on a platter and everyone ate them in like 10 min. before they had a chance to look yucky again.....next time I"m going to try and dip them in chocolate, maybe that will avoid this problem altogether???? did you find that they tasted like chewed up and spit out birthday cake???? The texture kinda wigged me out LOL kids loved em though

Same thing happened to me, even after letting them air dry. I couldn't eat them because of the texture, but I can't eat a lot of things because of texture (naked shrimp, bread pudding, etc...). One of my boys said they were ok, my other son wouldn't touch them, said they looked nasty, and dh said they were ok, but it would be a waste of my time to make them again because most wiould get thrwon away. icon_cry.gif

Where do I find the recipe for these...I've heard so much about them, but when I did recipe search for "cake balls" I got over 1900 hits! I'm with you on the texture thing too...they don't sound that appealing to me, but I've heard so much about them, that I'm tempted to try them. Dipping them in chocolate sounds good to me!

I made cake balls this past weekend because my cake didnt come out right and they were pretty good. I crumbled the cake and added store bought frosting, maybe 1/2 the can to 1 box cake and then i freezed it for about 15 mins while i melted chocolate then dipped in chocolate. The chocolate wasn't totally hard in the morning but i'm in Fl and it was pretty hot so i freezed for about 5 mins and then kept in the fridge. Hubby said they were good and so did my dad.

There's a special powdered sugar that you can order from King Arthur that won't get absorbed by your baked goods. For the life of me I can't remember what the specific name is. It was perfect on top of my lemon bars. HTH!

The moisture normally in the icing will cause the powdered sugar to be sticky. there are several options:

You can do like KHalstead, and keep them in sugar until serving,
Roll them in finely ground nuts
Roll them in finely shredded coconut
roll them in finely ground graham crackers
Roll them in finely ground cookies (oreos, vanilla wafers, whatever)
Or, dip them in melted chocolate (candy melts)

You don't really need a recipe. the result will vary a little because of your particular cake and icing. I tried it with chocolate cake and cream cheese icing. Very soft, but tasted terrific.
