We are taking a trip - 16 hour drive! - and I want to take a cake. We will be staying with a friend when we get there, and I thought it would be a nice gift. I'm afraid any blue ice ideas won't stay cold long enough.

It will be for just the four of us, so I was thinking 8" round. Any ideas for making it more stable for the ride? I wanted to use buttercream for the icing, figured make it out of crisco and add butter flavoring.

HELP! icon_cry.gif I need to start baking today, decorate tomorrow, we leave first thing Friday. TIA!

you should be fine....just make sure you don't use any milk in your icing and your cake will be fine at room temp for a week or so!!! What I do when traveling with a cake is make sure you stick a nice dollop of icing on the cake board...I usually make the cake board larger than usual and make sure it fits snuggly inside the box, this way if the box slides in one direction or the other...the cake will not slide around inside of the box getting smooshed!! Also get some of those shelf liner thingies and stick it under the box in the car and it won't slide around on you. Oh and DON'T put your suitcase on the cake box !!!!!! LOL Good Luck

I'll remember that! LOL No suitcases on cake box.

Another question - royal or bc flowers? Not much experience with royal, but afraid the bc will break easier.

either one, I would probably (just cause I'm skeered) stick them in a shoe box with some tissue and wait until you get there to stick them on the cake!! If you use a crusting bc you can make the roses or whatever a couple of days before hand on little squares of wax paper and let them air dry a bit and then they're easily transferred to the cake with the tip of your flower nail...I find people tend to like to eat the bc flowers more....but if you use royal, it would just be a ton easier to put them on the cake...I would still wait until you get there to put them on the cake...or if you're wanting that presentation.stop somewhere a little before you get there and put them on the cake so you can still have the oooohh's and aaahhh's when you walk in and unveil the beauty of your cake!!!
