if you kind of twist the bag before you pull away it helps, but i usually have to go back after its crusted and kind of flatten them
Your title cracked me up!!
I am pretty new, but the only answer I have found is to press the "nips" down with a wet finger (sometimes dry works if icing isnt' too sticky)
Make the dot and pull away and swipe to the side as you stop squeezing. Takes some practice.
It doesn't matter how I pipe I still get the "nipples". What I do to combat that is to let it dry a little and then go back with a finger I have dipped in cornstarch. Not too much because you don't want a powdery look.
Best of luck.
I just did a polka dot cake that was nipple-free this weekend! I just went back after a minute and pressed down slightly on all the dots... it worked great!
I tend to dampen a fine (art) paint brush with water, this tends to do the trick.

Thanks everyone. I'm doing a wedding cake next week and I've going crazy and getting very frustrated.
Sounds to me like you are squeezing as you pull away. Practice so you learn how to stop squeezing before pulling away. Same with making stars - ever end up with stars that look like hershey kisses?
As Claire suggested, you can also use a brush to correct this. Remove excess water by wiping on a paper towel before fixing your dots.
As always everthing takes practice. Heres what works for me....
after squeezing the dot make a C motion and lift away. This will eliminate the pint of a dot. Good Luck
Here's how I do it - sqeeze out the icing keeping the tip what I called "burried" in the dot until you get it to the size you want (let the dot build up around your tip)- then stop squeezing - pull the tip up - but not completely out of the dot. Circle the tip around the top of the dot. No points every time. Hope this helps too. Good luck.
I have some trouble with this, too, even recessing the tip into the ball and doing the 'c' movement. Recently, I have realized that my icing is probably too thin, but in the meantime, I let them ice and then lightly tap the down with my finger.
I have to admit I have tried all of the ideas to prevent the "nips", but I guess I have to practice. I'm glad a have brought this topic up. It's good to know I'm not alone in my frustration. This may need to be an article.
I think Cake_princess sums it up rather well! I also do this (as well the paint brush, when some dots get away..lol.)
I couldnt think of way to explain it tho..lol.
Claire
I do like some of the others mentioned...just let the dots set for a few minutes then go back and gently pat the tips down with my finger. The sharp points are a big pet peeve of mine so I always notice when they're pointy!

you squeeze squeeze squeeze and then stop; don't pull away; and swirl on the top without squeezing anymore and then pull after you swirled around and made no nipples!
I have that problem with bc, but not royal...anyone else have that experience with royal?
Raising the heat up in the room you are decorating might help (hope you get this )
Too Funny!

Would this not cause a meltdown? LMAO
I agree with cake-princess a meltdown will defineatly occur You are silly. I am happy to report that I have tried the squeeze and twist method and it worked wonderfully!!!!! Patience and Practice are the key and I'm short on both.
