How do you go about assembling them and then how do you attach them to the cake? icon_confused.gif Thanks in advance!

I wish I could find the picture of my daughter's castle cake so I can share with you but have no clue where its at. I did a 10 inch and 6 inch tiered cake in pink. Added pink scrolls and attached pink edible pears. For the castle effect, I bought pink ice cream cones, the ones that have a flat bottom and cut the bottom half off so that only the top part shows (sorry, kinda hard to explain...I hope you understand what I mean). OK, so I placed 4 of these on top of the 6 inch cake. In the middle I place a whole one so that this was taller than the others. I then took sugar cones and covered them with the pink frosting then rolled them in pink sugar crystals. I then put these on top of the other cones already on the cake. to mend the two cupcakes, I did a star tip around the border where they meet and also placed a pink pearl so it would look fancy. On top of each cone, I did a small star and also placed a pearl. If you still want to see a picture, I'll try to find it and post it....let me know.
I hope this helped.
Regards,
Naty

I have made several castle cakes......look in my photos. I use a "kiddie" icecream cone for the bottom of the turret, and then a pointy sugar cone for the top. I recently started rolled the point cone in melted chocolate (2 dips) and LOVE that technique, instead of covering them with buttercream. I attach the sugar cone to the kiddie cone with chocolate, so it's very stable! I also started using a #12 tip to pipe large dots all of the cakes and the turret bottoms, then smoothing them slightly once crusted over, to accomplish a stone look....turned out great and much easier and less time consuming!

Thanks for the info everyone. A couple more questions though..... How do you attach the pillars to the cake if you want to use the paper towel method as the mold? Do you attach the turrets to the tops of the pillars first and then attach the pillars to the cake somehow? Also, for anyone who's filled the pillars with candy, does the candy make it alot heavier? Thanks in advance and sorry for so many questions. icon_redface.gif

When I've made turrets, I attach the bottom pillars directly to the cake board with melted chocolate since I already have it melted to cover the pointy turrets. Then I attach the turrets with chocolate to the top of the kiddie cone. for the pillars on top of the cake, I place the already buttercream iced pillar on the cake and stick at dowel through it and into the cake to keep it from tilting/falling off, then I attach the pointy turret with melted chocolate and add finishing touches! I've not heard of filling the pillars with candy, but what a fabulous idea! I can't imagine it would add too much weight! I'm going to do this next time!

Hiya

I make loads of castle cakes and you can make the towers adhead of time.I make mine with pastillage and then wrap that round the tubes which are covered in cling film and the then leave to dry.....once dry slide off from the tubes so you just have the pastillage icing tower left..you attach to the board with royal icing or edible glue and some fondant stuck down to the board...hold it on the fondant for a little while just to secure it dont worry about how it looks cos you will cover any fondant which shows with rocks or whatever you are using to cover the board..The I fill my towers full of sweets only the side towers not the towers actually on the cake. The I get my ice cream cones and cover then in fondant either in fondant shells in my undersea castle or just wrapped in fondant then all covered in lustre dust. The ses are then stuck to tower with wot ever I have either royal icing or edible glue...

If you need anything else just ask....Have a look in my photos quite a few different castle cakes in there..
