Well we had an up and down weekend.... up - I got the KA, down - our fridge/freezer died. Now that's two food related things in just over a week that have died. I'm waiting for the third. Wouldn't you know it I just got two weeks of groceries on Thurs icon_sad.gif
Anyway...I got to use my new KA which is pretty neat! icon_biggrin.gif I made a 2 layer 9x13 french vanilla cake enhanced with butterscotch pudding. I used the caramel (condensed milk) for the filling. I boiled it for four hours and when I went to spread it I just put it in my piping bag, no tip and heated it for a few seconds to warm it. It piped beautifully so ((thank you )) all for that great recipe. I did notice the cake was wonderully raised when I took it out of the oven but sank somewhat when cooling. Is this because of the pudding or me over mixing in the KA?
I cut the 9X13 into 3 little loaf like cakes with the intent of decorating each one differently. 1) all fondant with lemon juice in the MMF instead of water 2) BC and fondant overlays and 3) all BC . I wanted them to taste each to nail down for sure what they want on their wedding cake.
Well with all the upset with the fridge etc. I only managed to get one of the 3 cakes done before I had "helpers".
Considering all that went on this weekend this was actually a fun way to end it!!! As you can see by the photo's everyone enjoyed getting into things and an icing fight soon took over!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif I figured oh well so the cakes didn't get "properly" done...but we had a lot of fun doing them. And when they finished "their" cake and half of another they decided to decorate a plate!! I think I have created some monsters here.
Enjoy the pics icon_smile.gif
Oh...and no we haven't tasted them yet hahaha....it was daughters birthday and she wanted an ice cream cake from the store...the nerve!!! icon_smile.gif

Are those your kids? Wow, I can't wait until mine are old enough/interested enough to 'help' with decorating, although I always make a few extra cookies for my 3 yr old daughter to decorate, she LOVES doing that! It's my dream to have a mother & daughter bakery one day - well, I can dream, can't I?! icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

LOL - you made me laugh when you described your son as the one with large holes in his ears!! LOL!! My 18 year old brother also has large holes in his ears. I write him notes and stick them in there all rolled up...and I told him he should get a tip cleaning brush to clean it. LOL.

Looks like you all had a blast. I also am dreaming of having a mother-daughters bakery. With the rate my little ones are going, I'm sure they'd be up for it!

I am glad you had fun decorating with your kids. It is always fun when the rest of the family gets involved.

I would love to have a mother-daughter bakery. I think that would interest my mother just as much. My mother has been decorating cakes for the better part of 25 years. We are both stay at home wives and decided to take the Wilton classes together to get us out of the house and give us some bonding time.

These cake classes have been some of the best times I have ever spent with my mother. We love it when we get to make cakes for family birthdays and such because it gives us chances to try out new things and see what we are capable of doing together.

We are trying to get more of the family involved, but they just don't seem to be interested.

BTW, my 2 year old niece refuses to eat icing on her cake now. I guess she got tired of eating it when we practice.
