All of these wonderful memories. Someone mentioned DISCO DUCK.... I was lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to be nicknamed "The Duck" in highschool. Disco was the thing, and all those Friday nights at the teen dance clubs. Oh man... icon_redface.gif Don't forget the carpenters pants, the lowcut slouch boots. The black Tshirts the so called cool guys wanted to be wearing. icon_wink.gif Oh yeah, the other car hot then, the Chevette. everyone had one. icon_cool.gif My sister took her rubic's cube apart with a screwdriver too. My favorite Muppet, the Swedish Chef (borgie borgie) Thanks everyone for the happy reminder of the eighties. My kids laugh when I turn on VH1 classics and dance with the mop.

You guys are cracking me up & making me miss my 10 foot bangs. I used to be able to go to 6 flags ride a roller coaster & get off & they would spring right back into place. I was supposed to marry boy George tear.I am so jealous what a fun cake. Will have to use these ideas for my bestfriends next bday. Another key figure you are forgetting the Smurfs. I forget was Alf around back then or was that early 90's? icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Chaptlps, you are hillarious, I have not though about that, but you seen some here and there.. Wow I am glad I matured from the perms and the colorful clothes and all that. Ok so I am a boring jeans and tshirt mom these days and I love it!

I just remembered, 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's fire. Or was that mentioned and I missed it!

I never thought I would be laughing so hard at what I wore. This thread is hillarious. Let's not forget Rick James......"Super Freak" MC Hammer "Hammer time" worn the no crotch pants. I think he was late 80's. The Karrs, Lionel Richey, Kool and the Gang, Sugar hill, Royals Royce. I remember the devil record scare. Playing certain records backwards you were suppose to hear evil messages. I could never hear a thing but I gained a ton of albums that the dorm girls threw out. I still have them too.

You know your getting old when your son/daughter says "hey, mom listen to this new group" and you know every word adding "they are not new, that's my era" and your child replies, "they're that old?". icon_cool.gificon_confused.gificon_eek.gif

ShyannAutumn -

Here's a quick story - just happened a couple of months ago.

Recently there has been a desire to remake the song Tainted Love, originally done by UK artists Soft Cell, which just happens to be one of my all-time faves.

In the car one day, my 26 year old son was taken aback when I started singing to a song on his XM. Suddenly, I hear "My Mom listens to Manson!". He was on the phone with friends of his, telling them that I was singing along to the Manson version of this 20+ year old tune.

I laughed so hard I cried. I did not tell him about the older version until a few days later, because it was so much fun to know that he thought I was the coolest mom ever.

Has anyone mentioned Billy Idol yet? How about the Brat Pack, and all those wonderful Molly Ringwald movies? Rocky, Rambo, Clash of the Titans, Conan the Barbarian, Porky's, Revenge of the Nerds, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and of course, E.T., all came to life on the Silver Screen.

LOL Theresa, a moment of glory. You have one up on them. I love seeing their faces when you know the song. icon_lol.gif With that said I have to admit I remember saying the same things to my mother.

Right now I have my 14 year old daughter hung up on the Eagles and Styx. I think I've hear "Renegade" at least 100 times this week. She also likes Prince, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she she doesn't find "little Nikki" hehe

Heavenscent, after I went back and read more replies I was laughing so hard at your post I couldn't see the screen. I can almost see that happening, and not one hair was out of place either. ROFL

I remember lifting a strand of hair to put it back in place only to realize I glued it (hairsprayed) it that way. When I tried to move it back into place the whole side of my head moved. I remember the biggest days of terror were rainy days.

LOL

I am still laughing so hard I can not concentrate. I know what you mean.Me & my sister would be in the bathroom with the mirror laying down on the counter. We would look down at it & have a pick & pull our bangs straight out & then blow it so all the hairspray would dry faster. I swear our bangs were probaly 4 inches tall at least. icon_lol.gif

Playingwithsugar - I had a similar experience with my 10 yr old son this week. He was playing the newer version of "Cat's In The Cradle", very rock version, & I was singing all the words. He said, "you know that song, it's by _______(whoever)"? I said, "No, it's by Harry Chapin, _____ just copied it, because it's a great song!"

I graduated HS in 1981, so I was an adult, too, in the '80's. College, parties, slam dancing (I got a black eye, once!), CHIPPENDALE'S Dancers (hmm - maybe the '80's weren't soooo bad? icon_lol.gif ) I married late, so the whole decade was pretty much wasted... icon_cool.gif

Besides the Big Hair, do ya'll remember the colored streaks in the hair? I still see some punk rockers (retro kids?!) with them and I laugh because my friends and I used to use blush to get that fushia-purple streak in our hair!

I even dressed up like Boy George for a high school Halloween Party once. It was pretty cool when I met a friend who sort of looked like she was dressed as Billy Idol!

Hey this is off track but for all you old timers, do you remember the song by the Archies, Chic a Boom.

I was singing it to my Grandson and my Daughter ask what kind of song is that. I didn't even realize what I was singing. I have tried to look on the inter-net to prove to my daughter there was a song, I didn't make it up. No luck.

Playingwithsugar, we need to start a thread from the 60's

Spoolies (cullers shaped like champaign glasses)
Psssssst (you sprayed it on your hair between washes, yes girls we didn't wash our hair everyday). And we went out in public with big, huge culers in our hair and a scarf wrapped aroung.
Pearl shampoo really had a pearl in it (fake)
Sake-a-pudding (you put the powder, milk in the container shake it and you had pudding)
I owned an origianl Barbie
You can take Salem out of the country, but you can't take the country out of Salem (I miss those cigerette commercials).
My roller skates had a key I wore around my neck on a string.
Shig Dig - Hullabalo (sp)
Dime stores were things were really a dime.
We wore knee socks with our shorts (don't know why)
I owned a candy striped dress and white go go boots and a mod hat. I thought I was really Groovy.

Oh, I need to stop that is a different thread.
