So, I had opened my package of luster dust and my DH threw away the package. I assume that it had the directions on it. I am making a fondant bow and want to put on luster dust. How do I apply it?????

Mix it with a little vodka or lemon juice (something that will evaporate quickly) and just paint it on! It takes a little playing to get the consistency right, but if you're able to play videos check this page out:

There's a tutorial there that may help you get a visual.

Good luck!

You can put the luster dust on with a dry brush to get a subtle color OR it you want to paint it on you can use clear alcohol like vodka or everclear or I've heard some people like to use different flavored extracts to make the luster dust wet enough to paint. The alcohol will evaporate leaving just beautiful color. Do not try to dilute the dust with water or you'll have an awful mess on your hands.

Get a little bowl...like a small condiment bowl....add a small amount of your luster dust and a high alcohol liquid (vodka or lemon extract)....mix and it should be nail polish consistency. Then paint on.....add more liquid as it dries out and do not throw away what you have left over in your bowl. Just let it dry and add liquid the next time you need to use it. HTH.

Vodka evaporates pretty quickly but it depends on how thickly you apply your luster dust "paint" and the humidity is also a factor. I usually leave it alone for at least a couple of hours to make sure I don't leave fingerprints - it's pretty much a "touch it lightly and see" sort of thing.

That tutorial video was great. I have been wanting to try luster dust and just haven't ordered any yet. The kitchen gifts website said that luster dust is considered inedible in the US. What's with that? Do you only use it on pieces of the cake that you know are not going to be eaten?
