The dummy cakes, how do you guys keep them looking fresh? I would love to make a few to show people who ask me and tell they would like to see the cakes I make. I know that there is the idea of the photograph, but somehow looking at almost a real one is more motivating.

That's not a dumb question, although, I can't seem to answer it for ya, here's a bump....maybe someone else can jump in here?

I've read on this site somewhere what they use to do this, but I can't remember where it was.

Good Luck finding out!!

I heard something about an icing that is sold that is used to create dummy cakes.

Also heard something about plaster aperies.

Good Question...

I think I understand the "bump" thing now. You post a reply that is a bump, meaning you're trying to make it appear on the home page in the recent forums area. Is that right. Good Idea!! I usually look at the ones with the most replys.

So, about the post, I just thought dummies meant they were using them as practice icing, not to display. I figured they threw the icing and plastic wrap underneath it away and kept the styrofoam. That is a good idea though. It's easier to imagine in 3D what a cake will look like.

Not a dumb question because I needed that answered too.
