In the effort to save time...can I bake 2--14" round cakes at the same time...obviously thinking one on top rack and one on bottom rack. Will this work, or am I setting myself up for disaster? I always bake my cakes @ 325 degrees. Any advice?
BUMP. I would like to know too; any time I have baked two at a time, it seems they bake unevenly; faster on the outside, slower on the inside, and you have to cook them longer than normally.
I suppose you COULD. However, you might want to re-arrange them halfway through the baking time to make sure they rise evenly. Personally, I would do one at a time.
I routinely bake two 10-inchers at a time, but they can go on the same rack. I've always heard that you don't want to stack whatever you're baking. I'd be worried about causing them to fall if I tried to rotate them halfway through. If you're not under the gun, timewise...might be an interesting experiment. Let us know how it turns out!
I had a same question few months ago. I hope it will help you.

Yes you can bake 2 - 14" cakes at ths same time. When you put them in off set them as much as possible. And about 1/2 thru then switch them bring the bottom to the top and the top to the bottom. IT doesn't hurt them at all. You do have to be a little careful in moving them but do it slow & smooth - no major bumping and they will be just fine.
