I just wanted to know how to cover tall column cakes with fondant?
I will be making 2 round cakes the same size and stacking them on top of each other to make a tall cake. I wasn't sure on how to cover them with the fondant. In the cake books by Debbie Brown she says to roll the fondant and place the cake on it then cut a circle. Then you roll out an oblong shape, place the cake on its side and roll it up in the fondant, cut at the join and rub joins together. Has anyone tried this? I am scared to try this!! Please help

Hi there.

That sounds like the easier way to do it. The only other way is to roll out an extremely large piece of fondant. ( to be honest, I am usually the one who takes the hard road) I can never get my seams out fully. I would take the diameter of my cake and add the height times two. This will be quite large, but you won't have seams to worry about.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for that, my main concern is the seams...so I think I am going to have to roll out a large piece as you have said.
