Can someone please enlighten me as to how to make ruffles using MMF?

MMF is not the easiest to work with but I roll mine out, make a strip of fondant, and use a toothpick or sculting tool to make hatch marks every inch or so, then i kinda gather it up and form it to make waves...

i don't know if this makes sence or not, much easier to show than tell
