I have always used flowerpaste to make the majority of my decorations. I have heard that you can use pastillage. What is it? How do you make it? and what is it suitable for.

Pastillage is stronger even than flower paste, Debbie brown books tell you to use it for things such as bedheads and other structures that need to dry really hard. I probably shud have used it for my failed easter basket handle. There are probably many recipes for it, here is the link to one.
Hope this helps.

Hiya

I use pastallge quite abit for my towers on my princess castles and for the green seaweed on my undersea castle cake..

It is a very firm paste which once rolled out starts to skin so you have to work quickly with it...It dries very hard so can be used for any rigid construction as once dry will hold its shape and will not collaspe on you...

It does set hard but is edible but if you want to keep your teeth I woundnt recommend it.

Once you have used it and gotton used to working very quickly with it is great..All I will say before you roll out have everything ready to make your shape if you leave it it will start to skin and wont look so nice..you need to get it all shaped before this sarts to happen....

If it does you can re knead and start again..if it gets bad soft in the miccie for a few seconds..

Hope that helps

pastillage is not gumpaste much stronger and dries alot quicker good for big strond pieces like tower and cribs etc

flowerpaste is not fondant it is much more elastine...so it can be rolled alot thiner for flowers etc

you can buy it in packet or pre made packets which I tend to do or you can make it yourself..

You can get it from

www.squires-group.co.uk i think they ship worldwide and for the pastillage I use the powder mix one where you just add water to it..

With the flower paste I buy the pre made packets which come in white and a whole range of beautiful pre coloured pastes..just roll out and make your flowers..

If you want homemade recipes let me know and i will dig out a couple but I dont tend to use them much...

I have never worked with pastillage, but I have seen it worked with, like on the Food Network. I have seen it rolled out, and cut out into miniature canvases, and then painted on, and then royal icing used for a picture frame, and painted with gold dust paint or whatever. It was pretty neat.
