Sure looks liek cassie! It almost looks like you had too much of the pink icing and maybe it was too thin. Try again!

Seems like it might help if you chilled the outline before filling it in.

I actually put it in the freezer after I outlined it because I thought how else do you fill it in.
But, this is what happened!!

I just made my first one today ! so I am not an expert, but doing it is very fresh in my mind. Here are some of my ideas of what might help ...

Freeze the outline.
Fill, but don't overfill the colors inside the outline.
When filling the background color, first follow it somewhat thickly, around the design, almost like you are outlining the outline. This would give some support and help keep the colors inside the outline. Completely fill in the background area, fully.
Then put a layer of background color over the entire piece, running your spatula over it making it smooth (thus adding some thickness).... not so sure about this, but I did this and it worked ok.

Maybe even freezing for a few minutes before smoothing might help too. The main problem just seems to be that the color flowed over the outline.

My main problems were that my outline smeared in places, and overall it wasn't as smooth as it should be.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind if I do it again.
I think my problems came when I put the background color of it. It just seemed wrong.

Don't give up! Everyone runs into problems once in a while, I hope you'll give it another go.

It looks to me as if maybe you pressed a little hard when applying the background color. Once you get the outline filled in, pop it in the freezer til it's nice and hard. Then, CAREFULLY spread on your soft background color (or better yet, use the cake icer tip if you have it). Try not to press down when smoothing it on, or you will push the other colors out of place.

Good luck!

Sure looks like maybe your icing was too thin. Or, maybe the paper absorbed it, causing it to spread????? Try doing it on plastic wrap, stretched over the design and taped down so it will stay smooth.

Oh my goodness! I totally pressed down on it when putting my background color on!
I thought that you have to like smooth it over the whole thing or something.
ok- I am going to have to try again!

I agree here. When I made my bct i actually took the background color and put it in a ziploc baggie and threw it in the microwave for a few seconds. Then I cut an extremely tiny hole in the corner of the bag and let the bc flow out of the bag. (make sure it's a tiny hole!!!) It worked perfect and was easier than putting it into a decorator's bag. (don't put in the micro too long it will melt quickly and get VERY hot) good luck.. thumbs_up.gif

When you put the back icing on, is it supposed to be thick? The whole image when I put it on the cake was probably 1/2 inch thick. So it stood up quite a bit

Mine was extemely thick too. but come to think of it, you could probably microwave the back color as well (the thick part)..

hi, Just a hint, when your using your fill in colors, don't put so much in. fill it so that the image has the color but not over the outline color so that when you smooth it, it doesn't oveflow the outline. Does that make sense?

Thank you all for your help! I think I'll try it again. I was pretty confused when it said to smooth it so it fills in (or something like that)
I really want to get this right! My niece is like a Cassie Freak! Every time she sees Dragon Tales she runs around screaming Cassies on, Cassies on!
Thanks again!

I would do what jo_ann mentioned....just fill in the color just a bit, and then, I add a little bit of thickness with the same color icing as your main cake.....in this case white. Does this make sense?

Oh yes, do try again. You've almost got the hang of it, I'd just follow everyone elses advice and I'm sure you get down in no time flat.
