I'm surprised I'm actually keeping up this commitment of doing at least one cake a month!
Anyway here is cake # 4. It is all marshmallow fondant except for the ruffle around each base. Pictures don't show it really well but the ribbons, bow and diamonds are all "painted" with a luster powder. I think I could have thinned out the bow ribbons a bit more. The top of the oblong cake is "quilted" and then little fondant pearls. The square base with round layer is the style the couple think they want. When I decided to do a cake this weekend I had an idea of what to try etc. but this turned out nothing like what I had in my head. It took on a life of it's own and I just did what I thought at the time. So much for learning the various tips as this had no piping to speak of. Oh well there are still a few months left to practice with that.
And guess what???????????????? They are allowed to eat this one!!! The cake is chocolate with a chocolate syrup frosting for filling. The top layer may be a bit tough to eat as I forgot it was in the oven. I'm really not good at this cooking thing!
I also killed my little mix master so now I am looking for a proper one. The little ones just can't handle these frostings etc.
Enjoy the pics and critique away.
Beautiful cake. Love all the detail work. Keep those cakes coming!!
Kitchen Aid stand mixers are super and you can go to their site and look at some under CLEARANCE!! They're still not cheap but well worth every penny and they stand behind their products 100%.
Very pretty. I love the look. The butterflies are cute...I like the movement they have.
What A beautifu cake! Good for you that you are keeping up with your commitment. your choice decorations are great. The white on white is a great idea. You can put more decs on it and doesn't look that busy.
(((thanks everyone))) I really love working with the fondant. the kids were up tonight and saw the cake (we'll eat it tomorrow) and we have upset a few former details by this new cake. At least we are narrowing down some things LOL
They know now they want a fondant covered cake, they want some drapey things, they want little fondant pale (very pale) pink hearts, they definetly want the bow and still want the edible butterflies and dragonflies and some coloured frosting/flowers all very pale. Does that narrow it down for you guys???? If so...please fill ME in hahahaha It seems with each cake I am doing for practice, they are changing their minds a little. Oh well....4 months away, they are allowed....if they do this the month of I will hang them!!!!
Thanks again everyone.
