Basket Handle Help?

Hello,
I am trying to make a fondant easter basket and want a fully edible handle. Will plain fondant be strong enough if I weave 2 sausages together or will I have to use flower modelling paste?
Also do you just roll the sausages, twine them together and lay them flat to dry or should I dry them hanging over something?

I would definetly use 50/50 . Stonger or majority paste.
