1/2 sheet is 12x18, but you'll get lots of diffrent opinions! 2x2 in. pieces will give you 54 servings. That's for a one layer cake.

Wow, momof3jotynjake. I am doing the exact thing (cross on top of 1/2 sheet) but my cake is for a memorial dinner for my husbands grandmother this Sat.

I just finished baking the cross cake 20 min ago, tomorrow it will be the 1/2 sheet........

We are expecting about 50-60 so I'm pretty sure we'll have enough.

I'm using the 12x18 pan. I can't remember where, but I read you'll get about 11 servings out of the cross pan. I'm trying to decide whether to slice the 1/2 sheet and fill it. My MIL loves extra cake. thumbs_up.gif

Alot of people that will be there have not seen any of the cakes I've made to I'm a little nervous but what I was planning on doing is this:

The 1/2 sheet will be iced white, the cross will be mostly iced white except for the very top which I want to do in pink. Then I want to do white cornelli on top of that and border the edges with beads. Where the cross and the 1/2 meet decorate with pink ruffle then bead on top of that with white icing. (that cross idea was actually from one of the old wilton yearbooks).
Since I don't know how to do flowers yet, I bought a lily spray made out of royal icing from my local cake decorating store that I will set on top of the cross.

I was then thinking of pink beads around the top of the 1/2 sheet then on the bottom incorporate the pink ruffle again with white beads.

Hopefully the finished piece doesn't come out as overdone.

Does my description sound confusing?

How are you doing yours?

I have the instructions but all it says is that the pan takes one 2-layer cake mix! It doesn't say what baking temp or baking time, so i guess you have to go with what you know!!

here is the link to what wilton says about servings.... it tells you how it should be cut to serve the amount of people that they say it should.

I have a printout of the cross cake pan and it says it takes a 2-layer cake mix and to bake at 350 for 35-40 minute. Think I printed that from cakepansforless website, though can't remember for sure.

I baked a chocolate so my cake actually began to spill over and I ended up turning the temp down after the allotted time to 325 and played with the bake time from there as it certainly wasn't baked in 40 min. I doctored up a choc cake mix with pudding and 1/2 milk and 1/2 vanilla/toffee/caramel creamer. The prebaked batter (had to taste test)was yummy so hopefully the baked is just as yummy. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks flayfurdfun, I'm going to check out the site you recommended for serving amounts - that way I won't be guesstimating and hoping I'll have enough icon_lol.gif

I'm so hoping this turns out that way I envision it..........

You could take the 11x15 sheet cake pan and cut a cross out of that.

I was thinking....why would there be a difference in the servings between a wedding cake and a party cake.... I noticed this on wilton before and dont understand it really but thats just me. If you do the same exact cake, just change colors add words etc I dont see why it would be different... Oh well.... but I have found that guide to be helpful.

Because--historically--a wedding cake is supposed to be much richer and, therefore you cut the slices smaller. I think that a wedding cake slice is 1" x 2" and a party cake slice is 2" x 2". Not sure on the measurements, though.

HTH.
