A friend of the family asked me to make acake for her grandkids for easter as they are coming to WV from MI...she wants a cake in the shape of a bunny...and as I dont have a bunny pan, I am going to sculpt it from cake. she wants vanilla inside with white icing and coconut covering the outside, it's going to feed around 20 people. the ingredients are going to cost me somewhere between 15-20 dollars, and I know carved cakes are a hassle lol...I dont know how much I should charge her. I asked her is she wanted to buy the ingredients I would need and she would just then pay me for labor and whatnot, but she wants me to but the ingredients and then pay for labor, she wants to knoe a price but I told her I would have to get back to her on that once I figure what its going to take and how much work I am getting myself into lol...How much should I charge her for this, I am goping to use 3 cake mixes and a lot of coconut and I was thinkin about either making the ears out of either white chocolate or sugar cookies I dunno yet, have any of u made a cake like this and howmuch did you charge for it??? thanx so much in advance and sorry its so long lol <3

Hmmmm, it's a fair bit of work, so I think $40-$50 is fair!

Here is the recipe for the bunny cake on Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee...a cooking show on the Food Network! It was a really cute cake and very simple to make and it's just like you described....she just used two round cakes cut and put together in the shape of a bunny and used cookies for the ears and frosted the whole thing and then put coconut on it...and used large marhsmallows or cotton candy for the tail it was really cute and I'm sure you could knock out all the frosting and decorating in under an hour!!! I would keep it simple since she doesn't seem like she really wants to pay too much for the cake!

Kind of along the lines of this cake when it's done only with two marshmallow front teeth and the ears are cookies instead of "paper??"...this one looks a little psychotic too...the one she did WAS cute....really!

My 3D sculpted cakes that serve 10 -15 START at $45. I know that sometimes it's difficult to charge people, but they usually have no clue at how much work goes into a 3D cake especially. I just tell people up front when they ask for something 3D that the starting price for 3D is $45. That way they can make the call as to whether or not they want to spend the money.
