I had a bride tell me this morning that a friend of hers made an "angel cake" that was like yellow cake, but very light? Does this make sense to anyone? She said it really didn't have any distinct flavor. If she's talking about angel food, obviously that can't be iced and stacked. I asked her to try to obtain the recipe, but does anyone have any idea what she could be talking about??

thanks in advance!

I found this recipe at allrecipes.com. I haven't tried it yet. One of the comments was that the texture more resembles a sponge cake. Hope this helps.

Yellow Angel Food Cake

1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup water
6 eggs, separated
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
Whip the egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar, and continue beating until stiff. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks until lemon coloured.
Boil the sugar and water until it reaches the thread stage, 230 - 234 degrees F (110 - 112 degrees C). Beat syrup into egg whites. Fold in egg yolks. Fold in flour. Pour batter into an ungreased tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour. Cool.
