Hello to everyone,

I didn't know this about those precious little dragees balls. I call them the bakers pretty little friends. I have a ? icon_confused.gif I want to know if someone can explain to me why they are banned in California because of the metal coating and their not banned in any other state? icon_cry.gifthumbsdown.gif

Dragees (pronounced "Dra-jeys") are those little metallic balls that we all remember on holiday cookies. They are safe to eat, but should be removed before serving because of the real metal coating. (That means they won't hurt you if you eat them, they do have a sugar center, it's just that the FDA has recommended that they are for decorative use only, and they are technically not a food item). They do add a beautiful and elegant look to wedding cakes, birthday cakes and holiday items.
Please note* Dragees have been banned in the state of California and it is illegal for us to ship them there.

Some places in CA still sell them as "decorative only" accents.

I buy them from a local cake supply shop.

I just bought a big bag of them at my local cake store. They still had some left. I'm in Northern CA. If you are looking for them...their site is www.edwardscakeandcandy.com I'm sure they would sell them and ship them to you.

I agree with mOuse, CA has a lot of bans, including higher taxes, higher gasoline costs, higher housing, just plain out HIGHER everything. icon_cry.gif

Although they are edible, I've heard they're not good on false teeth icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif

LOL MamaBerry you gave me a good laugh too. icon_lol.gif I hope your sweet baby boy is doing good today. In a way I'm glad that nursing days are over but in another way I'm sad. Those are some of the most sweetest precious moments of my life. But after a total of 5 years nursing 3 kids I'm glad it's over icon_biggrin.gif .

A lady who sells dragees in a local shop said she doesn't recommend them for that reason so I've never bought them.

oh my gosh....I remember those little silver balls when I was a kid! We called them ball bearings that you could EAT! Too weird.

I know this is kind of old but..

Have you thought about making them like you would pearls but roll them in silver luster dust? or sparkle dust? (or something?)

"someone in CA got sue happy?"

Haha. EVERYONE in CA is sue happy. There are a million bans out here. I went to a park in Texas and was amazed at the cool things for kids to play on. I foolishly asked my husband why parks in CA didn't have stuff like this. Some kid would fall and break their neck and sue the pants off someone.

Yeah, stuff like that! In Texas there was this one thing you sit (or stood!) on and your friends spun you around in circles and it was at least 4 ft in the air and slanted. NEVER in CA! They don't even have those big spinning ones anymore. icon_sad.gif

i don't know why they would be illegal, but it seems to me that people here in CA still have them...we just got some recently from a local bakery. They just gave us a little bag full. And one good thing that's not allowed in CA that's allowed in almost every other place is smoking inside clubs, restaraunts, bars, etc. Yeah to CA on that! Boo to CA on gas prices and housing prices. But I love it here!
