First of all, I love boween's how to - she makes it look so easy! I finally got icing sheets/ ink for my printer. When you make a plaque, do you let it harden before applying the image or can you do it while it's soft?

I am not an expert, but I know you apply them to cakes when they are still wet. I imagine you would do it while the fondant is soft so it will adhere to it better.

I, too, have a question about fondant plaques. I've been asked to make a baseball field, with players, etc., for a boy's 12th birthday. Not a problem--I've done one before. But....since I've become addicted to this totally awesome website I now feel like I need to kick it up a notch and broaden my horizens!!! icon_lol.gif I want to make a fondant fence and scoreboard. Never used fondant before; bought some today! How do I make these two things and how do I get them to stand up/stay on the cake? Thanks for any help.

Here is Boween's How-To: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-13474-.html

Ellen, I would think you'd let it dry or possibly mix it w/ gumpaste so it dries hard and attach popsicle sticks to the back to get it to stand up? Not sure though.

I've only done it once. I applied the image while it was still soft. I inserted two uncoated 20-guage wires into it prior to letting it dry.

I thought it took a long time to dry. Days. Maybe I made it too thick. I may try gumpaste the next time.

I'm not sure how to make them, but I made a cradle, 1/4-inch thick so that it dries harder. Attach with lollipop sticks; use 1oz. fondant and about 1 tsp water to make a thick glue/clay to attach the sticks to the item.

Thanks! Boween's instructions are really GREAT if you have a printer that you can make edible images with; but.....what about just making a plaque?

You can use patchwork cutters. I think that they come with the cradle set. I can't find my little book with them in it. Go to www.beryl's.com. Most of the time Beryl answers the phone and she is a lot of help. Unlike Sugarcraft where you can't get a live person.

lsawyer: I was thinking of using the lollipop sticks. Thanks for the "how to attach" info. I might even cover the sticks in black fondant. I'm not sure what the patchwork kit is but guess I'll look for it the next time I got somewhere that has cake supplies!! Thanks for everyone's help.

Just wiped 'em with Everclear. I cleaned them before sticking them in the plaque, too. They couldn't have been too terribly dirty. icon_smile.gif
