I am trying to make the 3D fire helmet cake. To make the top/round part of the helmet, I have tried the pyrex bowl and the Wilton soccer ball pan and my cakes are cooking on the outside and are still raw in teh middle. Any suggestions? icon_rolleyes.gif

I think you can fill those pans just halfway, otherwise, they don't fully bake. Are you over-filling? Can you use a heating core/flower nail while baking?

I will try the flower nail. I don't have a heating core yet. I tried using different amounts of batter, but it happened both times.
Thanks!!

they have to cook for quite some time...every time I cook in the pyrex bowls......for the doll cakes, etc. they take over an hour easily.........because the batter is deeper you need to bake it longer than a normal cake pan. If the top is browning too much you might try loosely covering the top with foil to keep it from browning further and continue to bake the cake, checking for doneness every so often. Oh, and don't remove it from the oven when checking for doneness or jossle the pan too much, that can cause it to sink too.
