I made a cake for a party tomorrow night. I have been seeing the occassional little ant thumbsdown.gif on the counter now that Spring is here, so I need somewhere to store my cake. I'm thinking about putting it in the oven. Anyone do this? Think it'll be okay in there? I don't see why not. I have to write myself a note so I don't turn the oven on!! icon_eek.gif

LOL!! I store things in the oven all the time. Even cakes. I would cover it though cause those pesty ants can get anywhere! We have trouble with them all year long! Good luck~

LOL...it's funny you should ask......I made a cake, had some disasters in the process but it ended up looking pretty good. Well, my cat likes to sit on top on boxes so I felt I shouldn't leave it out or she might decide to get up on the counter and sit on it while we slept.....I put it in the oven.......I forgot it was in there and turned the oven on.....it was in there about 15 minutes before I remembered......the cake box top melted all over my beautiful fondant roses that took me forever to make icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif So my advice would be, if you put it in the oven, make sure you tape a note over the controls on the oven so you don't make the same mistake I made.....I'm so glad I had taken a picture of it before I runined it! icon_redface.gif

OMGosh Cindy!! That is a horrible story!! I'm glad you can laugh about it now!

HOw's the weather in Lufkin? It is actually cold here in Bossier! I can't get to feeling better because of this crazy weather! Go figure!

That cake is one that I discussed in the cake disasters forum......such a sad ending, but I learned so many things from that cake, from begnning to end. The weather here is HUMID!!! It was cool yesterday but it got warmer today and add in the humidity and it was just sticky feeling....decided today wouldn't be a good day to make royal icing.

No doubt! It is rainy here tonight. Rainy days are not a good day to make royal icing or really anything icon_sad.gif

Oh Cindy, that's horrible!!
I taped a note over my controls so I would remember. I'm not a person that stores stuff in my oven so I would probably forget. On two occassions I've turned the oven on and discovered something inside. My sister babysat and my aunt babysat and they are both "cleaners" so they cleaned up my kitchen and put clean pans in my oven. I never do that and my oven is always empty so I just turn the oven on when I need to use it. Anyway, one of those time I ruined the handle on my brand new T-Fal skillet I'd gotten for Xmas icon_sad.gificon_sad.gif

I store them in the oven, too. But--I pull off the knob that turns it on. With my luck it would get "twice baked" also!

BTW--my cat loves to sit in and on any box, too. Although she has never done it to my cake boxes (either with or without a cake) I'm NOT chancing it! I keep them hidden!

Also--I have been known to store them in the back of my Jeep in the garage if I'm out of room in the kitchen.

When I did 200 sugar cookies--I stored them in my office--of the very desk where my computer sits.

I store mine in the basement on the pool table! It is very cool down there and sitting on the slate is almost as good as the fridge! (I have a finished basement - not Freddy-ville) ha! It works even in the summer.
