I have my last course 1 class tomorrow.. we are making the rose...
is it easier to make it w/ the stiff consistancy icing or royal icing?
also, should I make them in advance or in class??
No matter which icing you use - it will need to be stiff. (if it is too stiff you will get the jagged edge - it took me a while to get the "feel" of what the consisitency needed to be) We have done them in both - seemed about the same for both icings for me.
Since this is your last class of Course I, they want you to make the rose there so they can show you the Wilton method rose, and you'll need to have stiff buttercream, technically, you don't learn royal icing until Course II. I apparently do my roses backwards......they look right so I'm still not sure what my instructor means when she tells me I do them backwards.....actually,I had the best roses in my class.....maybe everyone should have been doing them backwards! LOL
LOL.. CIndymm4 ...my instructor said I did mine backwards too....LOL..
I still don't know what she meant.... I do them the way I was showed way back when...
But they look almost real when I'm finished...
OH well..I guess we all can't be perfect.

That is so funny! I was told I do my roses backwards too!!! I know I do because I do other things backwards too like shuffle a deck of cards & throw a bowling ball... for real!! I throw a backwards rolling bowling ball. My DH says I'm "special" It actually rolls backwards! I try to do it right but I can't. Everyone always laughs at me
My wilton teacher kept telling me I was doing the roses backwards. I finally told her that it doesn't matter! As long as it looks right it doesn't matter how I do it. She finally left me alone.
Now that I know other people do it I feel relieved!!! I can't wait to tell my DH!!
