Can I Create Colored "dots" In Batter?

Hey everyone. I want to do a white cake with green and pink "dots" of batter. (To match the outside: it will be covered in white fondant with pink and green dots.)
I think I could just mix in pink and green sprinkles and bake but I want bigger dots than that.
I've heard of poking holes in the cake and then pouring different colors of jello on but that will create "stripes" won't it?
Do you think if I squirted blobs of colored batter into the uncooked cake it would work? Any other ideas?
The customer is a friend so she told me to go ahead and experiment.
Thanks!!!
I did this once with a syringe (no needle) and I guess you could use a turkey baster. The dots spread out alot so smaller was better.
Good Luck!
i wonder if there is a candy out there ( or homemade) that you can add and then they melt to form the dots??....
That's what I was thinking...you'd most likely get some 'spread' with the colored batter, no matter what. I don't see how the batter would retain a 'dot' shape, no matter what method you use to insert the colored batter. The candy idea may be your best bet to try...maybe try colored candy melts, or you could make some pink & green white choc. dots?, in the batter. They won't be cake, but like choc. chips, I suspect if you dust them with flour before folding them into the batter that they would stay suspended within the cake after baking and retain their round shape? It's worth a try! Please let us know what you end up doing and post pics!!
I have always used sprinkles, it works great for me everytime. I use about a cup of sprinkles to a cake mix. Use what u think is best, they will "melt" and make dots in the cake. I think this is the best option, your choice as always. Goodluck
