Is This Cake Board Strong Enough?

Okay, today is the day I'm decorating the 50th anniversary cake for my parents party tomorrow. I'm probably going to have tons of questions so please bear with me.

I am using a 10" round and a 7" round. Both have been torted twice and filled (so they are 3 layers each). I have one of those gold cardboard cake boards with the scalloped edges that's a couple of inches larger than the 10" round. Will that be strong enough to support both cakes or do I have to run out and get something else? I have a 7" cake board going between the cakes and will dowel it for support.

Thanks.

No your cardboard will not be strong enough you should purchase a cake drum as your cake will be very heavy.

you can also cut about 3 layers of foamcore board and adhere them together and wrap nicely with foil or something. You can find foamcore at Michaels, Wal Mart or any craft store if you can't make it by H. Depot. (H. Depot is always my first choice cuz you can keep the board and reuse it!) Hope it works out for you!!!!!!

TamiAZ, that's what I have. The regular cardboard with the scalloped edges. The woman at the store said it would be plenty strong enough but I don't think I believe her. I guess I have to run out for a drum. Thanks.
