Hello it's me Briansbaker..I have been away for a few days. Putting together my nieces Sweet Sixteen... Sigh, It was the most stressful thing I've ever had to do. Me, my 3 sisters and my poor mother put the event together. We made all decorations, decorated the hall, made the food, I even took time to take my niece to the Botanical gardens and did the pictures, I made a scroll guest book, we made all the invitations, on top of that get all the other kiddos dressed, take my niece to get her nails and hair done, pick up her dress ( that was a disaster in itself, needless to say I had to get a little ghetto!! ) they lost her dress the day I went to pick it up, this was on Tues. The sweet sixteen was on Friday. And that is because it was suppose to be in the friday before. Boy let me tell you, I never had to get so ugly in my life. icon_evil.gif
We got the dress, we got the hall decorated, we got the pictures taken and developed, we had the scroll guest book made, we passed out 350 invitations. Out of all this and believe me I left alot out, I had to make the cake. The dinner was from 6:30 - 7:30 at the hall. We were sooooooooo behind, we get the hall at 5pm warming up food, setting up the kitchen. I have yet to ice the cakes. I am in my sweats, t shirt and flip flops. I am busting my a$$ trying to help in the kitchen, put on makeup, do my hair ( We all had to get ready at the hall) and ice three 14X3, one 10x3, and two other small ones. I was so pressed for time... I literally ran out of time, patients and icing OMG and I forgot to take the wooden dowels.... icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
I iced the cakes left them in the kitchen and put together what I could. It was nothing what I imagined. I could not ice the cake the night before because my sister had to make 120lbs. of pan barbque, 30 lbs of rice and beans and 40 lbs of potato salad at my house. my kitchen stayed so hot, I really thought I could get it done the day of. This cake was suppose to be a couple of more layers, plus have a fondant walkway down the front with flowers around it. So this is what I ended up with. All in all, The Sweet Sixteen turned out just fine. My niece was not upset at the cake, she said you all of you have done more than enough for me. It looks beautiful. Plus I was the sponsor for the surprise gift and I got her a 65.00 guess purse she had been wanting forever. so I think that made up for the BIG screw up on the cake... I thank my hubby for being patient with me, cause I put him through one hell of a day. At my house when moms mad everyones mad. icon_mad.gif the picture is in my photos... icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I'm glad your back...we've missed you! Are you superwoman or what?!? That cake is beautiful! I mean it...absolutley beautiful. Everything you did for your niece--what a wonderful Auntie you are. I'm sorry it didn't go more smoothly and it was stressful but if the rest of the party was as nice as the cake--you should be totally bragging right now!

Welcome back!! I think the cake was magnificent! You are way too hard on yourself. It was beautiful I couldn't have come up with that with a week of total peace!! You did a fabulous job! But I do understand that it didn't come out the way you had envisioned it. But WOW, you did a great job under so much pressure and the time constraints! Take a bow!! You are a wonder woman for sure!!

welcome back and the cake is great... I said I would never want to do a big cake again either...even though it was very plain.... but my reasonings is because no matter how much I tried I could not make the seams even as the cake so you could see where each cake was.... I had to do a "full sheet" 4 9x13s and my pans are the normal 9x13 not the perfect corner ones... I cant buy more pans until we are settled wherever we are going to be...

You must be a super aunt.... All that work for you niece, she is really lucky.
I am expecting something like that when my son will have his confirmation celebration. And I do not have many to help. It is two years a head, but I allready started some of the planning.
Allready I can feel some of the things you have been through.
Take a well earned rest.
