My New Old Cake Pan

This may be old hat for some but I just got around to using a removable bottom cake pan (not springform, the bottom just pushes up and out. Maybe it's for cheesecake. I don't know). I had seen them before but I was always afraid to use them...the batter might leak, the top edge of the cake might get stuck. Well I found one recently at a thrift store. It was only $1.99 so I decided to buy it--wasn't sure I'd use it. Then it came time to make the basketball cake. I asked AgentCakeBaker and he said to use a 9" pan. I only had an 8" and a 10". Then I remembered the scary pan was a 9". I decided to try it instead of having to run to the store and buy one...maybe two if I couldn't find a 3". Was I ever surprised! It works better than any cake pan I have ever used. It baked up nice and even and the top edge was so sharp. I'm hooked now but I can't find any other sizes...I don't even know what this pan is officially called. It's a Mirro 9" pan and it looks to be a little over 3" high. I wanted to share my experience in case any of you come across this pan or one like it. Also...does anyone know what it's called? Does it come in other sizes?

This is the cake I baked in it--torted and filled (cookies-n-cream).

Thanks Susan...I've googled it and everything. Can't find out much about it. I'm hoping if I can at least get a name it will help me find out more. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone here will have one too and know more about it.

Woohoo! That is it and it's a 12". I'm buying it! LOL! My new favorite pan is a cheesecake pan! It does say it can be used for cakes too though. Thanks so much Susan--mystery solved!

Now that is one smooth looking cake there! That edge is so sharp. It had to make for an easy time of smoothing. Doesn't look like you even need to crumb coat that one!! I need to be on the lookout for something like that!
Hoping to one day have a shop of my own!

That is so great! I could have a whole set icon_biggrin.gif I have never seen a mini pan like that. It's out of stock though so I'll have to look for it somewhere else.
