I have a wedding at the end of May with 2 wedding cakes for the same person one is a 3 tier stacked with a 14" plateau and the other is 5 tiers with an 18" plateau. Can't find any to rent around here and I don't want to spend hundreds for them. Any suggestions.

There are some pics in the gallery where someone used glass blocks (like what you see in a shower or kitchen) topped with a ceramic tile block. They look very pretty. You might try to do a search on that. Also, you can cut a square or circle out of plywood and either paint or cover with wrapping paper and clear contact paper. Those look really nice too. thumbs_up.gif

I got one for my wedding at www.cakesbysam.com and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. Of course there is the ever-popular suggestion....EBAY!!!! Or you could buy them, use them, then sell them on eBay.

Try looking at this site

http://www.weddingcakestands.com/homeplateau.htm

They have really reasonably priced plateaus.

You can actually use just about anything that will hold the weight of the cake (gal size paint can, plant stand, small stool for example) and cover it with pretty fabric like satin and tulle. Tulle is pretty over any fabric...solid or print to match the cake. And, the fabric hides what's holding the cake up nicely. You can also add flowers, petals, or strings of pearls around the base on the table for even more embellishment! Hope you find something that'll work for you!

also look at plant stands like at hobby lobby, they are usually decorative and stronge and i believe would make lovely cake stands.
