I was wondering about the magazine Cake Craft & Decoration...
can anyone give me their opinions of this magazine, is it worth
the $98.00 per year, are there alot of instructions, or just pictures?
I already subscribe to MBN and American Cake Craft.

can someone tell me when the next issue of American Cake is due out? Seems like it's been awhile since the last one.

leily,
It has to be ordered, and I do believe is comes from the UK. I found backorders that can be ordered from Global Sugar, but a subscription can be ordered through Express Mag

I'll have to look into it. Hopefully someone from Europe will see this and can clue us in on what is in there.

Dear everyone,

I can buy Cake Craft & Decoration locally on the newsstand. The store saves me a copy every month and (when they remember) will phone me to say it's in. (The March issue arrived on March 9.) It is cheaper for me to do that, than to buy a money order in sterling, mail it to the UK, and risk the postman mangling the magazines.

THIS MAGAZINE TOTALLY ROCKS. thumbs_up.gif Especially if you are into fondant. The pictures are stunning and at first glance look pretty scary but all the cakes have detailed step by step instructions with photos. Ads are kept to a minimum, mostly in the back. The contests are virtually all UK only.

Here is the website: http://www.cake-craft.com

Talk to your favorite magazine retailer about ordering it for you. The editors usually have a booth at ICES and sell not only subscriptions, but 4-6 months' worth of recent issues.

About obtaining cake magazines from UK here in the US -

It is quite a bit less expensive to buy them at a better book store. I get that magazine at Borders. I can call a month ahead and reserve it there.

I am so dissapointed. I went online and looked at Cake Craft and Decoration and LOVED it. I printed out the free sample project and it is so beautiful. I took Teresa's advice and called Barnes and Noble AND Borders. Both said the same thin, they do not have it and cannot order it or get it for me since it is just a magazine. The back issues on Global Sugar are $11 each. That way is still so expensive.

I called my local B&N and Borders and they said they didn't carry it either. But I wanted to see one up close so I looked at each cover to figure out which one I wanted most. I ordered one regular issue and the wedding cake issue. I agree it's expensive but I knew I would keep thinking about it until I ordered at least one to get my cake fix (but of course I had to check out the wedding issue too. icon_lol.gif If you can just treat yourself to at least one copy.

They do not order them, but my local Borders will reserve one for me if I call right before they come in.

Both locations sell both magazines, which is where I have bought them ever since I started decorating, almost three years ago. B&N also sells the trade journals, Chocolatier and Pastry Art and Design.

I am going to try my local Borders and B&N, and cross my fingers they carry it. If not, am still considering ordering a subscription through Express Magazine. May do a quick check to verify their credibility.

My local B&N and Borders do not carry these magazines either. They only carry the Chocolatier and the Pastry Art and Design ones.

Where are you located at Playingwithsugar?

I hadn't heard of it until about a month ago, and then I found it in a store called Hastings(in Lawrence, KS), which is a new & used book store. Then I saw it on the shelf of one of my local cake stores here in Kansas City.

You can also get it for $98 from amazon.com

Might treat myself to that. I also feel better getting from them.

OK! Here is a little help!

You need to call and talk with the person that deals with the magazines! This is the person that organizes and puts everything out. That person will have a list or can get a list of everything that BN SHOULD carry. They will have to call their corp. office and get it added to the list of things to be shipped. After they do that ask them to hold that copy up front for you every month so that they don't throw it out.

This is coming from an X magazine person that worked in the Mags. section for 1 1/2 years down in GA! (There was a guy that would get very upset if he did not get his UK Land Rover Mag) I use to have to do this for a lot of people. But, I was a pro and knew where to get everything! Some stores won't want to do it for you! AND they may not actually carry it.BUt, tell them you want to buy it each month and it is a guaranteed sale!

Hopefully everyone that wants these can get them now! They look so neat and I am going to even try since I don't work there anymore!
GOOD LUCK! icon_smile.gif

I paid 108.00 Dlls for the subscription on March 18 and today it is one month that I have not received it neither I can find the page where I ordered it.
I found the e mail of the editor and she asked Express Mags to contact me but seems that neither she can get in touch with them.
Very frustating icon_mad.gif

There'a a lot of quality tutorials in them. Not a lot of wedding cakes but all occasion and sugar flower step-by-steps. Go to Barnes and Noble and you can usually find a copy for around $10. american.
