I am going to be selling cookies for the first time (just here at my office) and would like to put some sort of ingredients list on a small label (just to be safe). My questions is do you list everything, including salt & baking soda, or just the larger main ingredients?
Deb
I would list it........just because I think it's nice to see that you're making it from scratch......because if you omit baking soda (most people know it HAS to be in there) then they may wonder what else you're omitting!!! I think there is a certain charm in reading an ingredient list where everything is pronounceable (spelling?)
I am interested in knowing how you do this. Do you print it out on the computer and then attach that to the cellophane bag? Thankns
When I've done it, I've printed the list on clear address labels and then stuck them to the back of the baggie that hte cookies are in.
Just a quick question, but do you need to list the ingredients in order as far as the main ingredient to the lesser ingredient?
That is pretty much how I put the ingredients in order on my tag (also used clear address label).....besides, that was the only way I could remember them , by looking at the recipe!
Hi, when I was going through the licensing process I had a lengthy several discussion with the labeling agency. Here are a few things I learned that might help you out.
1. List ingredients from largest quantity by weight to smallest (flour the most, salt the least)
2. Break out the allergens at the bottom in bold : (Contains Wheat, milk, nuts, etc)
3. List the contents fo the items you put in this, for instance Flour is not just flour....10x sugar normally has powdered sugar, some vanilla extracts have additives, etc.
4. this may be a state thing, but it makes since anyway. IF you are providing cookies for individual sale, such as your work you need to individually label each package. however, if you are going to sell them to one person for distribution by THEM at an event (party, wedding etc) then you can just provide one ingredient list. They are responsible for ensuring their guests know. You can label them all, but some bride's want no labels, and sometimes the cost gets up there.
I use gold labels form office depot and print on my pc...that way i can change the ingredients of I alter the recipe at all.
Hope that helps, Julia
I have to get some clarification in the ingredients listing.
Am I correct that if you have butter in your product you have to list what is also in the butter?
Thanks in advance, because this is the most confusing thing I am having to put together.
