Hey everyone! I just got approved last week by all the right people to go ahead and start my business. I've been doing cakes for fun for people and they have been getting more and more extravagant when people realize that I do them. I love doing it so much and people said you have to do this as your job. Funny being that I got a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Religion in 2004. I'm so young (almost 23) that people don't realize that I've been doing cakes since I was sixteen and worked in a bakery. Anywho....my whole point and question to get some feedback on is.....My business "Kelly's Konfections" is totally about the color pink (hence my favorite color) we are talking hot pink business cards and shirts and everything....Most cake business' have a signature cake. So I thought what could be a signature cake that involves the color pink? Here goes- a Neapolitan cake. Strawberry cake with chocolate filling and a vanilla buttercream frosting. My hubby said it sounded good but he isnt all up the cake world like we are so can you all let me know what you think?!?!?

I like the idea but how about a champagne buttercream instead? If you are going for the pink look you cant do better than champagne, chocolate and strawberries....just my opinion.

I'll be posting pictures sometime. I have six rolls of film to develop. Slacker I know. But I like the quality of the film compared to my crappy digital camera. Where did you find pink boxes at?

i love the idea of a neopolitan cake, but maybe you should make the OUTSIDE of the cake pink, since everything is pink. but i do like the idea of a strawberry cake., you could flavor the icing strawberry, do a butter/vanilla/white cake and fill with chocolate?

I'm not sure if there's a "right" way to do the colors in a Neopolitan cake, but how about using a pink vanilla flavored icing, and using strawberry flavoring in the cake but having the cake white? Then it would be white cake, choc filling, and pink icing.

I think the icing should be pink if pink is your signature color and this is your signature cake, just MHO.

Laura.

All of these ideas are great! I am going to post a new thread on the "coloring" up your business in pink. It seems like a lot people are going with this color. Maybe we can all share ideas!

Pink is just a great colour. I would definitely make the cake on the outside look pink to go with the rest of youre styling.
Can you get fresh strawberry's all year? Over here we don't - and that's why I wouldn't use them: People might think youre cakes are not fresh or were frozen.

We can get fresh strawberries all year round. Just a little more expensive in the winter. I won't be using fresh strawberries in the actual cake though- it's more of a flavouring idea. Thanks for the idea about snapfish. I've heard of people using them before. How reliable are they? If something were to happen to my photos I think I would want someone in front of me apologizing verses a phonecall, but if they are reliable it is worth a shot! Does anybody else have a signature cake for their business? If so, what is it? I would love to hear!!!

I like smashcakes idea of the outside being pink, but a chocolate cake and white filling. That's a neopolitan to me!

I use my checkerboard cake as my "signature' cake...its the one people know me for, since nobody else around here is doing anything like that!

When (one day, hopefully!) I open up a shop, I plan to have whimsical patterns painted on everything...so I will be able to pull in the checkerboard there too!

ASupergirl - where are you located? Just curious. I'm just starting the process of a home bakery.

Unfortunately, my signature cake has become a football helmet. No one around here does it, but they're really popular. Once I get this all under way, I'm going to have one cake that is a specific flavor and design as a signature cake - not sure what it will be yet.
