I hate Wilton's and am looking more for something that is less sweet but not so fluffy that I can't smooth it. I've looked over my stash and three pages or so here, I'm not sure what to use. I want it to look nice but the taste is more important.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to sound dumb but wondering what is ISO? Not real familiar with all the abbreviations used on this site.

If you want a simple buttercream that you can smooth and tastes good, I'm happy to give you theone I use but not sure about the ISO!

Zamode:
I give this to all my students and they rave about it. Also have had many compliments from those I have made cakes for. I do not take credit for it. it was given to me by a friend. Even my husband likes it and he usually doesn't like BC. So try it!

2 cups Crisco
1 tsp vanilla flavor
1 tsp butter flavor
1/2 tsp almond flavor
6 TBSP water
2 lbs. powder sugar

Cream Crisco; add flavors and water mixing till smooth then add sugar! On some occasions I have added a pinch of salt dissolved in the water. It seems to cut down on some of the sweetness and the "greasy" taste although I really haven't noticed this one tasting greasy. This will crust well. Like I said, everyone seems to like it. Hope you do too!
