Hi guys!!!

Well, I know we are not supposed to advertise our cakes if we don't make them in a comercial kitchen (at least in most states), but I was wondering about cake toppers (not edible) and party favors (not edible). Can we advertise in newspapers and make flyers, since people are not going to be eating them?? They are all craft work and made out of clay....
I haven't quit the cake business, but I've started working with cold porcelain and would like to sell my work...
Help!

Thanks!!!

that would be the same as any other craft (wood, polyclay, glass) item.

check laws on zoning (doubt a problem here) and liscences, etc.

I would sat that as long as you are set up to collect and report sales tax (assuming that is required in your area), that you could advertise and sell your figures without a problem. Maybe attend a local craft show, find someone who looks like they are organized and know what they're doing, and ask them what is required. If you pay sales tax on all of your supplies to make the figures, you might not be required to collect sales tax from your customers, which would certainly keep things simple. Good Luck!
