I am doing a graduation cake in May. I am doing a 1/2 a sheet cake with a graduation hat on top. I was going to use fondant to cover the round cake and board for the hat. I was thinking about airbrushing the fondant black instead of working the color in. Will that work or will the fondant soak up too much color? Thanks in advance.

Yes...that will work but you have to do several light coats and let them dry in between to get a good dark black!!

Also try using vodka or Everclear in your jar. It'll dry before it can make the fondant too wet.

I always start with chocolate fondant when I want black... it takes very little airbrushed colour that way!
