Is it o.k. to leave butter out in its original packing overnight? I want my butter to be soft when it is time to mix it in my icing.

I've left my butter out...in my butter dish for toast. It keeps for weeks.

Really! I wish I would have asked this question last night. My butter would have been good and soft by now.

Thanks Lisa!

You're welcome! If you cut the butter into 10 pieces, it'll soften in about 10-15 minutes.
