How Long To Beat The Butter Cream

I am pretty new to baking cakes,this site is such an inspiration.I see tons of butter cream recipes but none mention how long do you have to mix.I tried wiltons butter cream and it tasted like a lump of sugar mixed with butter.
I really really want to learn and decorate cake.how do i get the shine and softness like store and one that is not so sweet

Please help

Sad to say but buttercream (BC) is sweet if you use any of the traditional recipes for it. You just have to kinda experiment and try the diffrent varieties out there to see which ones you prefer and it doesn't hurt to tweek the recipe a bit to what you'd like to have in it.

P.S. BC can be beat as long as you wish... it's just until you're happy with the consistancy of your icing that you stop beating it. Have fun and welcome to the site. thumbs_up.gif
