Castle Cake Towers--Edible?

I'm going to do a castle cake for my daughter. I'd like to make the towers edible, instead of the paper towel tube idea. I've heard you can bake them in a clean soup/cylinder can. How do you accomplish this? I'd appreciate any thoughts on this!!

Welcome to the site!! Yes you can bake in soup cans it has been discussed here before, but I am not sure of the success rate with that. Other options include oreos glued together with royal and covered in BC or fondant, Placing mini donuts on a dowel,or rice crispy treats rolled into a tube. I know there were more suggestions- I will have to go look.

If you look at the castle cake in my photos, you'll see that my turrets are edible. Each one is made from cake rounds cut with a biscuit cutter from a 2" layer cake. I "glued" them together with buttercream, crumb coated them, refrigerated them, covered them with fondant, doweled them to the base cake vertically, doweled them to the body of the castle diagonally, and used some tinted royal icing "mortar" to the castle wall. The turret tops are molded rice krispie treats (used a small greased funnel) and covered in fondant. The structure survived an 8 mile ride over bumpy roads in a van with poor shocks and was eaten completely.
